I drove over to the Ocotillo Wells SVRA today for a few hours of riding, to test out my new AC pro pegs, grips, and to dial in my sea level jetting.

The elevation at Ocotillo Wells ranges between 160'-300', so basically sea level. I ended up running a 162 main jet, the same 48 pilot jet that I ran at El Mirage, and put the needle clip in the 4th groove. The 162 main is probably a touch rich, but I plan on using this same jetting in the dunes and the extra load the sand puts on the engine requires a little more fuel to be safe.

I also got a chance to try my new Kenda Klaws in the "soft" rotation direction. They have a v-shaped tread design that lets you flip the tires side-to-side for hard or soft surfaces. Since Ocotillo Wells has a lot of sand, I flipped the tires to "soft". It does seem to make a difference. I was actually able to bog the quad down in some of the deeper sand, which I could never do with the old tires. It still spun like crazy going up Blow Sand Hill, but that's to be expected as they're knobbies afterall.

The pro pegs are absolutely awesome. With the pegs moved down and back I'm actually shifting and hitting the rear break with my toes, instead of the middle of my foot. And even with my MX boots on, there's plenty of room below the shifter. In fact, I may end up rotating the shift lever down a tooth. The extra wide pegs also make you a lot more stable just standing up riding around, and I like the angled kickouts for throwing your weight around.

I got about 3 hours of riding in before calling it a day after losing two exhaust springs. I'm going to pick up some replacements tomorrow, but I really need to work out some sort of system to keep them from falling off. If crimping the ends shut doesn't do it I'll safety wire the damned things on. I also need to get some grip glue as my new grips were twisting around and trying to fall off all day.
