Welding in front roof supports
Today I started out by making a patch panel for the outer sheetmetal that was rusty. No pattern this time, just some metal and a hammer. Then I got to work welding in the replacement roof braces. Since there's a greater than 0% chance that I may end up on the roof of this thing one day, I went a little overboard welding the corner braces. Those welds are in addition to plug welds in the factory spotweld locations. BTW, my new plug welding pliars worked pretty awesome, I have to say. I did manage to set the car on fire (a little) and a flaming hot spark fell in my shoe, but otherwise everything went smoothly.
Next up will be some work at the rear roof brace, then I can get to work affixing the roof panel. I still need to make some rocker panel patches, and whenever my (backordered) cowel side panels show up, they'll be the last of the rust repair!
There was nothing on TV tonight, so operating under the assumption that more welds wouldn't hurt, I ran a couple seam welds along the roof brace and the top of the quarter panels. Welding on a whim, in boxer shorts and a tee shirt, is a good way to get burned, BTW. I don't recommend it.
