Windshield + frontend removed. Cowl rust. I impale myself in the leg.

Today the new filter + regulator assembly for my air compressor arrived. The old regulator had gotten jammed or something and was bleeding pressure off from the tank side rather than the air line side. That's obviously no good. The filter on this new setup even has a trick float that drains fluid automatically. It's also got a sintered bronze filter instead of the crappy paper one that was in the old filter.

I also got a ton of roloc discs. Of course, I managed to order the wrong size (2" instead of 2.5", oops), but after using some of them the smaller ones are actually pretty nice. I got scotchbrite discs for paint/bondo removal, and normal rolocs for metal removal.

Anyway, the first job tonight was to get the windshield out. And guess what? Yeah, it broke in half. As soon as I put any pressure on it at all (after cutting the window goo), it just cracked all over. I think 40 years of California sun made it brittle. It had yellowed at the top and I was planning on going with something lighter weight like Speedglas anyway, but I was still hoping to get it out in one piece.

To make matters worse, I found even more rust under the windshield. This is getting pretty ridiculous. How a car that spent its entire life in California got so rusty I'll never know. Must have been a beach car or something. Fortunately (again), they make a replacement for the upper dash panel, and the cowl panel underneath if I need it (which I really hope I don't).

On the bright side the a-pillar rust under the windshield doesn't look too horrible. I'll know more when I get the rest of the roof off though, and I'm not holding my breath.

The next job was to get the frontend sheetmetal off. No surprises there, but I did manage to stab my leg pretty badly on an inner fender. It's deep enough that I'm considering going to get stitches tomorrow if it hasn't stopped oozing.

Anyway, I guess it's time to put together shopping list and buy some more parts. Sucks too because this is eating into my "track day tires for the Corvette" fund. Oh well.
