RH quarter panel installed
A marathon session today. I got started at 8am, and began by painting the inner structure with POR-15 (I had prepped it for paint last night). Then I went to the welding supply store for some more MIG gas, some cutting wheels, and a new pair of gloves (I only get a couple weeks out of gloves before I've shredded them).
When I got back the POR-15 still wasn't dry, so I started reattaching the portion of the LH lower valance panel that I removed in order to get the quarter panel and lower trunk extension out. If you're thinking to yourself "there seems to be a big low spot there", well, you're right. That rear panel is so smashed and hacked back together from previous collision repairs that there's just no way to get it perfectly flat. I'll have to rely on body filler. Sigh.
FWIW, that patch is actually three separate pieces of metal, because I had to replace a rusty portion and a section that was turned into swiss cheese when I drilled out all the spot welds.
By the time I was done with this (it took hours), the POR-15 was dry on the other side, so I started fitting the new quarter panel. It took some doing--lots of hammering, trimming, and cursing.
Anyway, the fit on the rear panel is much better on the RH side, but still not perfect. I think I'm going to take a few days off now. Getting all this work done in a week (and the poor fit/ton of work required of the panels on this side) has kind of burned me out for now. If I do any work in the next week or so it'll probably be low stress stuff like removing the front sheetmetal or cutting easy portions of the roof off.
